John B. Carley
Walk up to the top of section C-2 and you will find the gravesite of John Broderick Carley (1981-2012). He is buried with his father, John Paul (1947-2018) who owned the Notty Pine Tavern on 15th Street in Troy from 1977-1987, and alongside his grandparents Edward (1910-1987) and Mary (1913-2006).
John B. Carley touched many lives during his 31 years - especially through his artwork, interacting with many people whether in school or adult day programs, his group home, hospital settings or out in the community. Even though he was unable to express himself through the spoken word, John found his ‘voice’ through the paintbrush. He developed a distinctive style using a light brush stroke and a palette of mostly blues and greens. His paintings were exhibited in art venues throughout the Capital District and grace the walls of many homes and office buildings locally and as far away as Japan. He left his imprint on the world not only through his artwork but by the way he lived his life: with gusto at times, with serenity and a knowing smile at other times.
No one who had the good fortune of meeting John ever forgot him.
